Richard “Dick” Ervin Nelson, age 79, died Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Methodist Campus in Rochester.
Dick was born on May 7, 1941 in Spring Valley, MN to Ervin and Alice (Davidson) Nelson. He graduated from Grand Meadows High School. He worked at IBM for 30 years and retired. He worked supplemental for 10 more years. He married Pat Michelson and they had 3 children, Vicki, Curt and SuzAnn. They later divorced. He married Jan Berg and they later divorced. He had a special friend, Jackie Jaderborg.
Dick’s hobbies were golfing and weekly golf trips with friends, boating on the Mississippi and just being on the river. He was co-founder of the annual River Rat Rally. He was a member of Elks Club. He enjoyed time with family and many friends.
Dick is survived by his children, Vicki (Mark) Schneckloth, Curt (Jill) Nelson, SuzAnn Nelson; grandchildren, Eric Schneckloth, Cristine Schneckloth, Sara Schneckloth, Amanda Alfred, Tony Nelson, Matthew Nelson; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Darlene Jacobson, Marilyn Steir, Beverly Simonson, Susie Stickens; and brother, Truman Nelson.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Dorothy Hunsey.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2020 at Rochester Cremation Services, 1605 Civic Center Drive NW, Rochester, MN 55901. Fellowship will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Eagles Club, 917 15th Ave SE, Rochester, MN 55904.
