Shirley J. Beckel

Shirley J. Beckel, age 84, died Wednesday, July 15, 2020 of natural causes at her home in Rochester, Minn.

Shirley was born on June 16, 1936 in Prairie du Chien, Wisc. to Gerald and Katherine (Davis) Dickey. She was married to Bruce B. Beckel on September 5, 1955 at St. Mary’s Church in McGregor, Iowa.

Shirley worked in sales for Levitz Furniture. She was a member of the Resurrection Catholic Church in Rochester. In her free time she loved playing cards and bingo, loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was always drinking a Coke or Tab. She loved watching Wheel of Fortune when she wasn’t at the casino or bingo hall.

Shirley is survived by her children, Debra (Raymond) Marks of Lakeville, Minn., Bruce (Lia) Beckel of Austin, Minn., Jayne Lawrence of Rochester, Minn., and Terry (DeAnn) Beckel of Lakeville, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Beckel; her parents, Gerald and Katherine Dickey; brother, G. William Dickey; and sister-in-law, Barbara Dickey.

A private Memorial Service will be held on July 31, 2020 at 11:30am at St. Mary’s Church in McGregor, Iowa. Burial will be after the service at Pleasant Hills Cemetery in McGregor, IA.
